I’ve been powering through a number of books as of late (thanks Audible) but if I had to pick just one book that I wanted everyone to read right now, it would be The Most Expensive Game in Town: The Rising Cost of Youth Sports and the Toll on Today’s Families.
Of course I’m very biased because of everything I’m trying to do with Coach Wizard (and this book highlights a lot of the ‘fuzzy’ issues we are indirectly working to address) but I think this book is a must read if you’ve got any connection to youth sports at all (even if you’re just a parent of a young athlete).
It’s a really short read and gives you a lot of insight into just how crazy (and big business) much of youth sports has become.
While I was reading it, I found myself thinking that this should be required reading for anyone that joins the Coach Wizard efforts (though I would never actually require it - it’s just that those that don’t read it are probably not great fits or believers in our bigger mission).
So do yourself a favor and go grab a copy now…it’s the perfect way to spend a little down time during the holidays!
